Harvest Engagement Inspiration Shoot with Southern California Bride
Jay’s was recently asked to take part in a harvest engagement party shoot for Southern California Bride, an online resource for brides getting married in Southern California. This inspiration shoot took place at the spectacular Ecology Center located in San Juan Capistrano. We were able to work alongside an incredible group of local vendors to create this lovely, autumn farm-to-table gathering. Our event specialist Nickie Good, did a wonderful job planning a menu that suited not only the exciting change in weather, but also the venue culture. While the Ecology Ecology Center does not host weddings, it offers the perfect scenery for a small eco-friendly event. It’s also an education center that teaches community environmental solutions. The 1-acre stretch of land houses a general store in a historic farmhouse alongside eco-labs, and abundant landscapes. This space provided the perfect atmosphere and backdrop for our fall shoot. Alongside the farmhouse table dinner, a fun beer garden was included in the party’s festivities. Left Coast Brewing Co. provided an amazing selection of their crafted beers.
All in the Detail Design handled the event coordination, organizing all the pieces of the evening together perfectly. As for the stunning bride-to-be, Love & Lace Bridal Salon provided the gorgeous lace bodice dress, while hair and makeup were styled by the talented Beauty and the Beach. Petals & Stones pulled the look together with stunning jewelry and creative direction. The party was set in a lush outdoor space beside the Congdon Farmhouse. Folklore Vintage Rentals contributed their furniture and Enchanted Fine Florals decorated the scene with the season’s most magnificent florals. And the adorable stationery and menu signs were made by Lucy Celebrates. For this specific shoot, we wanted to create a meal that tailored to the surrounding environment: fresh. The first course included our Bruschetta Pomodoro with sliced baguettes. For the second round, we had our tasty Antipasto Skewers with Genoa salami, cherry tomato, Calamata olive, and Buffalo mozzarella. As for the third, we prepared our delicious Grilled Zucchini Roll-ups made up of lightly grilled zucchini ribbon, Boursin cheese, micro greens, and roasted pine nuts. Of course we can’t forget dessert. For the sweet, we served our Dried Apricot Pecan & Mascarpone Tarts. And Rooneygirl Bakeshop made the most ideal cake for the shoot, complete with a wood-like frosting texture. We absolutely loved getting to be a part of this splendid, harvest inspiration shoot alongside these wonderful vendors. Thank you to Southern California Bride for including our cuisine in the shoot. And a huge thanks to Tiffany Amber Photography for sharing your photos of the event with us and Miguel Garcia Studios for capturing the shoot from start to finish.
A New Chapter for Jay's
Exciting things are happening at Jay’s. We like to dream big, always looking for new opportunities to grow and expand in the fields we’re passionate about. This past week we were able to enter into a new chapter of our story. Now, you’re all probably wondering what this change is. Well it’s awesome, we can tell you that. When it comes down to it, entertaining is at the heart of what we do. Whether we’re catering a wedding, a corporate party or a small gathering, our mission is to bring people together. And what suits a good meal better than a beautiful setting?
That’s right folks, we’ve decided to open our own venue! This crazy idea had been tumbling around our heads for some time, so we set out to find the perfect location that would compliment Jay’s style and philosophy. This week, our wishes became a reality as we were handed the keys to this magnificent building. The structure is a historical rarity for Orange County, as it still contains the original brick and exposed beams. Instead of spilling everything at once, we’ve decided to share little pieces of information at a time. So here are a few inside glimpses of our new space. We hope you’re as enthusiastic as we are about this adventure. Making this place our own is going to be quite the incredible experience and we couldn’t imagine it without the support of all our wonderful customers. Stay tuned for more details and updates!
Ellie's New Specialty Dessert: Kouign-amann!
This past year has been quite the exciting journey for our café, Ellie's Table. As we’ve settled into San Clemente’s tight-knit community, we’ve created a wonderful bond with our loyal customers. On October 17th we will be celebrating Eleanor's birthday. As many of you know, Ellie’s Table opened in homage to the owner’s grandmother, Eleanor Mastroianni, and her culinary talents. Our intention from the beginning has always been to maintain Ellie’s imaginative approach and aesthetic in all that we do. That essence, best put by our slogan: “Happiness is Homemade,” is why we value our customers and their input so much. Our story was built on family and we want to celebrate that as we continue to grow.
One of our customers has been asking us to add a special dessert called Kouign-amann to our menu for quite some time now. We thought Ellie's birthday would be the perfect day to add our version of this Breton cake to our menu. Kouign-amann is a crusty, layered cake containing folds of bread dough, butter and sugar inside. As the cake bakes, the layers puff up and the sugar caramelizes. For our interpretation of this tasty sweet, we decided to add a crème brulee filling. We assure you, this is a treat you are going to want to taste. So drop by on October 17th to try this new menu item or order a batch for your upcoming holiday party. We can’t thank you all enough for supporting Ellie’s Table and making it your neighborhood café. It has been an incredible adventure, and we’re excited to see what’s ahead. We want to also express our gratitude for suggesting this delicious dessert, we can’t wait to share our version with you all!

Adam + Kim, The Loft on Pine
Adam + Kim recently wed at The Loft on Pine, a magnificent venue in the heart of Long Beach. The couple hired Jay’s to provide a unique selection of eats for their big day. Our Event Specialist, Patti Robledo, made certain that every detail of the event was carried out perfectly. This historical, urban venue was quite the fitting space for Adam + Kim’s wedding. Vows were exchanged in the beautiful Great Hall in the presence of their loved ones. The stretching room features wood floors, columns, worn brick walls, vaulted barn-like ceilings, and ornate windows that cast a magical glow. The hall was decorated in a shabby chic style, suiting the feel of the existing space and showcasing the couple’s personality. Antique accents and simple greenery were scattered about the inviting room. Bloomin Bride Designs pulled everything together with a blush & gold color palette and florals, providing a lovely, romantic setting for such a heartfelt day.
Instead of just table cards, guests were given cute handkerchiefs for any joyful tears that might be shed during the evening. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktail hour, which included one of the couple’s favorite treats: boba tea! During this time, Jay’s hosted a tasty build your own bruschetta bar. Then guests made their way to their tables at the reception. Instead of a traditional plated meal, the couple went with a fun approach by having our small plate stations. The first was a Mac ‘N’ Cheese Martini station that offered different takes on the comfort classic with a variety of gourmet toppings. At the next station, Jay’s prepared two different sliders: Cabernet Braised Short Rib with crunchy onions, stilton cheese and creamed horseradish on a brioche bun and for the second, Kahlua Pulled Pork with Maui BBQ sauce and apple cabbage slaw on a Hawaiian bun. The third station offered our Caprese Salad as well as our Spinach Salad, which includes strawberries, feta cheese, and candied pecans with balsamic vinaigrette. The night was full of laughter, kind words, and elation as guests celebrated Adam + Kim’s union. Greenhouse DJs provide a great selection of tunes for dancing the night away. Instead of just cake, the couple opted for a homemade pie station. These sweets included Apple Pie, Banana Rum Caramel Cream Pie, Lemon Meringue, Pecan Pie and Mixed Berry Crostada. Thank you Adam + Kim for letting us be a part of your special day. And to the Youngrens for sharing these gorgeous photos of the day with us.
WIPA's End of Summer Soirée
This past week Jay’s had the to opportunity to participate in WIPA’s End of Summer Dining Soirée at The McCharles House in Tustin. WIPA, which stands for Wedding Industry Professionals Association, is a non-profit organization that represents a host of vendors to serve as a resource for others in the industry and engaged couples planning their weddings. As an active member of WIPA, Jay’s was thrilled to play a part in this particular event and work with such a great group of vendors. The McCharles House is unlike any other Southern Californian venue. The green and pink Victorian House stands surrounded by lush greenery and bright flowers. WIPA couldn’t have chosen a more charming space to host this fun event. The playful décor mirrored the house’s color scheme and whimsical nature. Classic Party Rentals provided rentals for the lunch, and La Tavola dressed the tables with their fine linens. Nisie's Enchanted Florist and Square Root Designs filled the venue with spectacular arrangements and florals. Calligraffiti created all the beautiful invitations and stationary for the event. Jay’s, 24 Carrots, and Good Gracious were asked to prepare dishes and drinks for the luncheon. For our choice drink, we went with our signature Raspberry Rickie (non-alcoholic). When guests arrived, they were able to valet their vehicles with Special Parking Services, Inc. Then they were invited to walk through the garden gates and wander through the venue space. During this time, Vaughn Fahie set the tone by playing the saxophone. Also, Visions Entertainment provided the DJ and lighting services for the day. While guests explored the grounds, servers passed around trays of hors d’oeuvres. Our appetizer was a Santa Barbara Uni and La Quercia Lardo Crostini with Hawaiian Black Lava Salt created by Chef Sascha Lyon. After mingling, guests were welcomed by the Southern California WIPA Chapter President, Michelle Facciolla. Then, the chefs from each catering company were introduced. Our Executive Pastry Chef, Jean Christophe Milon, represented the Jay’s team and described the dishes we served. Once everyone sat down at the tables, the grand lunch commenced. We were asked to provide dessert for the meal, so we went with our Passion Mango Pot de Crème with Milk Chocolate Crunch and Passion Fruit Chantilly Cream, and our Gluten Free Chocolate Decadence with Fresh Raspberries.A Wish And A Wisk designed a gorgeous and elaborate cake for the party. When the meal simmered down, guests and vendors had time to meet and share ideas. We had a blast at WIPA’s End of Summer Soiree. It’s an honor to be apart of such an awesome organization with this extraordinary collection of vendors. Thank you to Christopher Todd Studios for sharing you beautiful photos with us, Plug Video for capturing the event and to Kevin Covey Wedding & Event Coordination for pulling together the whole afternoon. We can’t wait until the next gathering!
