Founded in 1913, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (NHM) is an historic and exciting place that is dedicated to education and conservation. The NHM is committed to the vital and noble goal of exploring humans’ relationship to other species and the Earth while also inspiring future generations to care for their natural and cultural communities. The museum holds an impressive number of displays: 17 permanent exhibits, 6 rotating special exhibits, and over 300 dinosaur fossils.
The Natural History Museum provokes inquiry of the world around us, but it also encourages interaction between patrons by offering itself as a venue space. The NHM’s Grand Foyer, Times Mirror Room, African Mammal Hall, North American Mammal Hall, and famous Rotunda are all available to book for your next special event. Imagine the museum’s awe-inspiring Tyrannosaurus Rex and Triceratops fossils acting as the center stage of your wedding reception in the Grand Foyer. Or, let your imagination take flight with thoughts of dining amidst glorious Savanna Elephants in the African Mammal Hall.
The wonderful thing about selecting the NHM as your venue is the ample freedom of choice and design that the museum affords you. The available spaces alone showcase the diversity that is open to you and your event planner. The Rotunda—home to the first publicly funded art piece in L.A.—can host 120 people for a seated affair. It is marked by its well-known marble columns, vaulted ceiling, and glass doors, which lead to a prime view of the Exposition Rose Garden. The Grand Foyer, which can also seat 120 guests, is positioned at the center of NHM’s Mammal Halls and features gorgeous travertine floors, marble columns, 40-ft. ceilings, and a host of other architectural triumphs.
Looking for more space? The North American Mammal Hall can accommodate 300 guests for a seated event and will make you feel as if you are exploring the Western Plains. 280 individuals can enjoy a seated dinner in the African Mammal Hall, which is a more intimate space that will surround you with exotic African animals. Lastly, the Times Mirror Room, with a capacity ranging from 35-100 people depending on the needs of the event, is perfect for a meeting or corporate gathering.
The Natural History Museum is truly an ideal venue for the imaginative couple that is seeking an adventurous ambiance, flexibility, and a backdrop of structural magnificence. In addition to wedding ceremonies and receptions, the NHM accommodates corporate events, school + non-profit occasions, kids’ birthday parties, and anniversaries + personal celebrations.
